Virtual Parent’s Night Out
Every month at Virtual Parent's Night Out, we offer a workshop where parents will be able to gain information and resources about a pre-determined topic. After the workshop, parents can socialize and connect to share their challenges, frustrations, worries, and strategies for coping.
Kids Connect
Join us for another session of games, socializing and surprises at this month’s Kids Connect program! Kids Connect is designed for children 7 – 12 years of age who are blind or partially sighted that provides an opportunity to connect and socialize in our Blind Beginnings Zoom Room.
Blind Beginnings Holiday Party
Join the Blind Beginnings staff at our Annual Blind Beginnings Holiday Party on Saturday December 2nd!
At this year’s party you can look forward to some of our traditions including; decorating cookies and white canes, playing games, doing activities, and a holiday sing-a-long. There will also be refreshments and beverages provided.
Creating Confidence Workshops
The Creating Confidence Program is a series of monthly workshops that are designed to build skills and cover topics for teens that are blind or partially sighted that will help them build independence and boost confidence of their own abilities.
Junior Creating Confidence Workshop
During the Junior Creating Confidence Workshop, children who are blind or partially sighted will practice talking openly about visual impairment and learn how to answer those unasked questions sighted peers often have. In this fun and safe environment, participants will expand social skills and build confidence through activities, discussions, and real-life situations.
A Taste of Fall Fundraising Event
This October, in honour of Blindness Awareness Month, Blind Beginnings and co-Sponsor PCI Developments invite you to our exclusive fundraising event, A Taste of Fall, held indoors at the beautiful VanDusen Botanical Garden! This special evening is more than just a social gathering; it’s a powerful opportunity to support our mission of empowering BC children and youth who are blind or partially sighted and their families.
Youth Leadership Training Part 1
This program is for youth 13 – 19 years of age from all regions of the province to participate in a series of sessions and activities that are designed to build confidence and employment skills in order to prepare them for their future transition to work and adult life.
Camp Limitless Summer Camp
Come join Blind Beginnings at Camp Limitless this summer, taking place at Camp Potlach located on Anvil Island, on August 23 - 27, 2024.
This annual camp is open to children or youth who are blind or partially sighted and are welcome to attend individually, or with their families!
STEP Program (Safe Travel Education for Pre-schoolers)
After a huge success last summer, we are very excited to once again be offering this multi-day orientation and mobility themed series of activities aimed at pre-school aged participants and their parents.
The STEP Program will run Monday July 22 to Thursday July 25 from 10 am - 2:30 pm each day and will involve a series of skill building activities, from sensory skill and concept building to movement skills.
Thompson-Okanagan Community Discovery
Meet with us at Riverside Park in Kamloops for a family picnic and fun in the sun! Lunch will be provided, as well as some accessible outdoor activities for the whole family including lawn games, bell soccer, and some all-inclusive theatre improv games.
Community Discovery - Vancouver
Join artist Jag Nagra, Arts New West, and Blind Beginnings for a multi-sensory outdoor art workshop on Saturday, July 20th, at Belmont Parklet (beside Tim Horton’s) in New Westminster.
LIFT (Lifeskills Instruction For Teens)
Our LIFT program will take place July 15 – 19, 2024 in Burnaby. Teens from across BC will live together for five days at the Victory Hill town houses where they will learn and practice independent living skills with their peers. This is a unique opportunity for your teen to learn and practice the skills they will need to someday live independently.
Virtual Drop-in Youth Support Group
This Drop-in Youth Support Group is a place where you can connect with other teens who are blind or partially sighted in a safe and comfortable space. We know that when you connect with a community of peers who understand, you no longer feel alone.
Blind Beginnings Family BBQ & Annual General Meeting
Join us on June 15th for our Annual General Meeting followed by a fun filled afternoon at Bear Creek Park for a Family BBQ. Members are welcome to join us for one or both events!

Early Intervention Family Retreat
We are thrilled to once again be offering an Early Intervention Family Retreat, hosted at the Alexandra Retreat & Events Centre in Surrey, BC! Open to the whole family, come and enjoy this relaxing getaway while being provided information and resources about visual impairment.
Seeing Things Differently Parent Support Group
If you are like most parents of a child who is blind or partially sighted, you had not met anybody who was blind before your child was diagnosed. The Seeing Things Differently Parent Support Group is a place to connect with other parents who have a first-hand understanding of what you are going through.
Vancouver Island Community Discovery - Victoria Firehall Tour
Come join us and our Vancouver Island families on Sunday, March 10th as we get a personalized, hands-on view of the Victoria Fire Hall, related equipment and fire safety tips.
Early Beginnings
Time to explore in the house or in the neighborhood, with an Early Beginnings session featuring a Tactile Scavenger Hunt! We will start the session with Adam’s Accessible Story-time, followed by Kids Yoga with Sasha, as she guides us in a virtual yoga scavenger hunt. With reference to the Braille Bites Episode 9 (linked below), we will then identify features of an object and have children and families report back in after searching in the house for an object(s) with those attributes.
Family Day Skate - Vancouver Community Discovery
Come hit the ice with Blind Beginnings and Eclipse Blind Hockey!
Blind Beginnings Families are invited to the annual BC Blind Sports Family Day Skate organized along with the Eclipse Blind Hockey program.
The event will also include equipment rentals for anyone that does not have skates and a helmet. Members of the Eclipse Blind Hockey program will be on hand to assist any of those who are new to ice skating.
After skating (which will end at approximately 2:30pm), you are invited to stay and watch a demo game of Blind Hockey!

Let’s go Bowling - Kamloops Community Discovery
Come join the Blind Beginnings team in Kamloops for some Yuletide bowling fun! Dust off your bowling shoes, stretch your bowling arm and get ready to slay those pins with an afternoon of bowling at Falcon Lanes Bowling Alley, followed up by some post-game pizza!

Baking With Blind Beginnings
Come join us in our Blind Beginnings Zoom Room on Saturday morning, October 7 where our Youth Alumni baking master Jill will walk us through making a classic Fall dessert, a Fruit Crumble, ready for the Thanksgiving Dinner table!

Dragon Boating - Vancouver Island Community Discovery
Come on out and try Dragon Boating with us at the Fairway Gorge Paddle Club in Victoria! Includes three sessions - an orientation session, training session, and lastly our Dragon Boating session followed by a tailgate hot chocolate party!
Virtual Parent's Night Out
Our monthly Virtual Parent’s Night is moving to Wednesday evenings this Fall. Our next Virtual Parent’s Night Out Workshop is Wednesday September 20 at 7:00 PM and our topic is IEPs (Individual Education Plans)!

Early Beginnings
Early Beginnings is returning this September with monthly sessions taking place on the third Sunday of the month!
Our topic for September will be the use of fingers!
We will cover such topics and activities as: finger puppets, communication with our fingers, finger play activities, tapping and drumming, finger dexterity, coordination, and arts and crafts!
