Our LIFT program will take place July 15 – 19, 2024 in Burnaby. Teens from across BC will live together for five days at the Victory Hill town houses where they will learn and practice independent living skills with their peers. This is a unique opportunity for your teen to learn and practice the skills they will need to someday live independently.
LIFT is open to teens 13 – 19 years of age who are blind or partially sighted.
In a supported environment, with the support of Teachers of the Visually Impaired and Blind Beginnings staff, teens will:
Cook meals from scratch
Meal prep and grocery shop
Do dishes, cleaning and laundry
Route plan and take public transit on buses and Skytrain.
Host a dinner party
Socialize and have fun with other teens who are blind or partially sighted.
Accommodations
We are grateful to have access to 4 town houses that are residences for students who are Deaf during the school year. Each house has 6 bedrooms, two bathrooms, and a kitchen and living room area. Teens will need to bring their own bedding, pillow, and towels. All meals and snacks will be provided for the duration of the camp.
Cost
This camp is partially subsidized by a foundation grant and individual donors; however, we do ask families to pay a commitment fee of $150 per teen.
Note: The cost of travel for teens from outside Metro-Vancouver will be covered.
Please note: Space is limited, and spots will be offered on a first come first serve basis. Everyone is welcome to apply, but priority will go to teens that did not attend last year’s Limitless Life Skills Camp.
Registrations close July 2nd, 2024.
