Children's Health Foundation of Vancouver Island - Bear Essentials

Bear Essentials is a family support program that assists with the costs of health-related travel and equipment for Island kids. The program is designed for families that struggle to afford the associated costs or that have barriers limiting their ability to access health care or equipment for their child.

Cops for Kids is a charitable foundation that is committed to assisting children that have suffered a medical, physical or traumatic crisis.

Friends of Children

Friends of Children is a registered charity providing free and confidential service to Northern BC and East Kootenay families travelling to access medical treatments for their children. Their goal is to relieve emotional and financial strain by assisting with the fuel, accommodation and meal costs associated with these appointments, surgeries and consultations. They may also be able to assist with therapies and specialized equipment related to a child’s medical condition.

This program helps full-time students with a permanent disability, or a persistent or prolonged disability with the cost of education by replacing up to $1,560 ($30 per week of study) per program year in B.C. student loan funding.

The Gert Vorsteher Educational Bursary for students with disabilities was created by British Columbia Rehabilitation Foundation (“BC Rehab”) in 2014 to award two educational grants of $5,000 each to British Columbians with a physical disability who intend to pursue post-secondary education that will lead to employment and greater personal independence.
